Own Volition (OV) is a public health consulting company focused on providing innovative, evidence-based solutions to public health issues and their related programs. We work through the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) framework, and an anti-oppressive anti-racist (AR/AO) lens.

What is the OV philosophy?

People are free to make choices for their lives, including unhealthy ones. The goal of public health is to persuade people to make the healthiest choices, keeping in mind that people only change their behaviour when they are ready. Similarly, organizations too can repeatedly implement programs that are familiar, but ineffective. Changing health behaviours is hard; especially when they are your own. Sustainable change only happens when someone is ready to break their old cycle.

At Own Volition, we believe there's always room to change things up. Why?
